The ‘Tour de Furness’ charity cycle event is organised by the Rotary Club of Furness to raise money for the St Mary’s Hospice and other Rotary charities. The idea of the event is to get cyclists of all abilities joining in to have fun and raise money for local charity.
We have a choice of three routes, from 5 to 50 miles to test your physical fitness, but remember, ‘this is not a race!’
The Rotary Club of Furness has been organising the Tour de Furness, charity cycle event since 1995 and has seen the event grow bigger and better every year.
Another bumper year for the Tour de Furness, we have paid out £22,336 and of this £8,000 went to St Mary’s Hospice, see the list of beneficiaries.
In addition we had our largest team ever taking part, Team Alice, riding to raise funds for Alice Pyne's Alice Escapes Fund had 73 riders taking part in a mammoth effort which suceeded in raising £3000 for their charity.
This year the cycle routes will be very similar to the routes used last year, (to view the routes, click on a route on the menu bar). We will have a family ride which is the Tour de Furness route of 13 miles and which passes by Furness Abbey and for cycling enthusiasts we have the, Furness 50, which covers approximately 50 miles to Coniston and back in a figure of eight. Remember that the event is not a race, it is for fun, so please enjoy our new website and let us hope for fine weather on the second Sunday of September.
